PROJECT SUMMARY
In 2023, Kragelj Architects participated in an invited architectural competition for the redesign and adaptive reuse of Odiseja, a local cinema and event space.
The initial concept was developed into a dynamic transformation of the traditional cinema into a versatile entertainment venue, seamlessly blending technology, community, and design.
THE DESIGN
At the heart of the concept is a vision to create a multi-purpose experience space, one that accommodates not only film screenings but also concerts, dance performances and more. This reimagining turns Odiseja into a flexible cultural and social hub for all ages.
The architectural concept focuses on immersion and openness. Upon entering, visitors are welcomed into a vast open-plan interior where mirrored ceilings and columns create a striking illusion of infinite space.
A distinctive wooden ceiling feature softens the visual experience while cleverly concealing load-bearing structures.
A nearly 360-degree balcony, adds additional seating and enhances the communal feel of the venue, while providing unique points for viewing performances and events.
The newly envisioned space includes:
- A reception/concert hall equipped for various performances and events
- Two fully renovated cinema halls located on the left and right wings of the venue
- Spacious lobbies in front of each cinema hall, designed for socializing, and fluid movement in between events
- A stylish cafe for casual gatherings and pre-event mingling
- An indoor children’s playground, inspired by the animated series Professor Balthazar
SCENARIO: CONFERENCE
The developed concept is designed to support a wide range of scenarios, including regular cinema screenings, concerts, exhibitions, and even conferences.
One of the key features of the design is the ability to completely dim the entrance hall, transforming it into an optimal setting for conferences and other focused events, without compromising its daytime openness or evening vibrancy.
